FAQs

  • HOW DO I SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT?
    - FORMS The best way to book an appointment is to fill out a submission form for a specific artist. You can find their forms under ARTISTS > ARTIST’S NAME > BOOK TATTOO. Each artist has a link to their form on Instagram as well. Once submitted, you will receive an email about calling and setting up an appointment. -EMAIL BLKONYXTATTOO@GMAIL.COM Please include your name and contact information, where you would like the tattoo, how big, whether you would like it in color or black/gray, and a description of the tattoo you would like. Feel free to upload any reference photos as well. If you would like to work with a specific tattoo artist, please let us know who. - CALL 585-413-3792 If you would like a simple tattoo (such as text or a symbol) feel free to call the shop to set up an appointment. Please call the shop to see if we are available for walk-ins.
  • DO YOU DO WALK INS?
Depending on the day. Give us a call at 585-413-3792 to see if any of our artists are available to take a walk-in.
  • WHY DO I HAVE TO PUT DOWN A DEPOSIT?
A deposit holds your spot and makes sure that the artist is compensated for their time if you do not show up. The deposit goes toward the total cost of the tattoo. If you require more than one appointment to complete the tattoo, the deposit is deducted from the last appointment.
  • CAN I SEE THE TATTOO DESIGN BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT?
As a shop policy, we do not share tattoo designs prior to your appointment. When you arrive for your scheduled appointment, a design will be prepared for you. Minor edits can be made at that point in time if needed.
  • WHAT SHOULD I DO TO PREPARE FOR MY APPOINTMENT?
When preparing to get tattooed you want to make sure you get a good night's sleep, eat a full meal, and make sure to drink water and stay hydrated before you come in.
  • WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO MY APPOINTMENT?
We recommend bringing a drink to stay hydrated. Make sure to eat before you come in because food isn’t encouraged in the tattooing area, though a small snack is allowed to help keep up energy. Feel free to bring headphones if listening to something will help to distract you. We understand that being tattooed isn’t the easiest process and any way to make it easier for you is encouraged. Please bring your photo ID to present at check-in. See below for proper clothing to wear/bring.
  • WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO MY APPOINTMENT?
Consider where you are getting the tattoo on your body. Wear comfortable clothing that allows the tattoo artist to access that area easily. For thighs, hips, and bums, we recommend wearing a thong or loose fitting shorts. Wearing dark colors or clothing that you wouldn’t mind getting stained. We do our best to protect your clothing, but the ink may splatter and is difficult to get out. We want to ensure that you feel comfortable and safe during your visit. For added privacy we provide pasties, use drape sheets, and have privacy screens on hand. If it would make you feel better, feel free to bring a blanket or extra coverings.
  • CAN GUESTS COME WITH ME?
Because tattooing requires focus for the artist, we will only permit one guest back with the client under certain circumstances. If both clients are getting tattooed they will both be allowed back but if it is a group there will be only one or two allowed at a time. We understand that being tattooed can be scary and that having someone with you can help, because of this you are allowed to bring one person with you for support reasons only. We understand it can be exciting to bring a friend while you're getting tattooed but the tattoo studio is not a hang out spot and we as artists need to focus on giving you the best tattoo possible.
  • HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE TO GET TATTOOED?
New York state law requires that you must be at least 18 to get a tattoo, if you are any younger than this you are not able to be tattooed even with parental consent. We also require a valid form of ID to be presented at the time of the appointment.
  • DO YOU USE VEGAN INKS?
We use vegan-friendly inks including: Empire Ink, Eternal Ink, and Dynamic Ink.
  • WHAT IF I AM ALLERGIC TO THE INK?
If you are allergic to any dyes or metals, please consult your doctor about tattoo inks. For more information regarding brands and ingredients, contact your tattoo artist. Sometimes people are concerned that their skin has a bad reaction to the ink during the healing process. Bumps may form around the tattoo when too much Aquaphor Healing Ointment or lotion is applied to the tattoo, clogging the pores. If you have any questions regarding your tattoo during the healing process, check out our AFTERCARE section, give us a call or email, or consult your doctor.
  • DO PEOPLE EVER PASS OUT WHILE GETTING TATTOOED?
Yes, people may pass out while getting tattooed (or even prior to the tattoo). Eating a meal and drinking water is the best way to prevent fainting. This phenomenon is called vasovagal syncope and can be caused from dehydration, hunger, fright, anxiety, and the sight of blood or needles. When this occurs the tattoo artist will immediately stop tattooing and will follow procedures to ensure your safety. Sometimes involuntary vomiting or urination may occur as well. Please do not be embarrassed by your body’s natural response to getting tattooed! Our artists understand that tattooing is an intense procedure and we will do our best to make you comfortable. If you feel faint or sick, please notify your artist immediately, as we want to keep you from fainting.
  • CAN I USE NUMBING CREAM?
If you choose to use a numbing cream, please test it a week or two prior to your appointment. Sometimes people have adverse reactions to numbing creams and we do not want to tattoo irritated skin. Please follow the instructions on the product. If you are worried about pain management, we can use a product called Bactine during the tattooing process to ease discomfort. We do not typically recommend numbing cream because it can wear off during the tattoo causing more discomfort. Please notify your artist prior to the appointment if you would like to use a numbing cream. We do not provide or sell tattoo numbing creams at the shop.
  • WHY DO TATTOOS COST SO MUCH?
Like so many other services and products, "you get what you pay for." In order to provide you with a quality, sterile tattoo, we use disposable needles and medical-grade supplies as a safety precaution. Additionally, we use quality inks to ensure the tattoos' vibrance and longevity. You may be able to find tattoo shops/artists that charge less, but you may be sacrificing cleanliness and quality.
  • WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?
Cash, credit card, CashApp, PayPal, and Venmo. No checks. Gift certificates may be applied toward any current artists at the shop. Gift certificates may NOT be applied toward a deposit. A non-refundable deposit of $100-$200 is required when you schedule your appointment. That deposit goes toward the total cost of the tattoo. The remaining balance is due at the end of your appointment, so please come prepared. We do have an ATM machine on site.
  • SHOULD I TIP MY TATTOO ARTIST?
As a service industry, we tattoo artists will gladly welcome any tips.
  • WHAT SHOULD I AVOID AFTER BEING TATTOOED?
For 2-3 weeks after being tattooed we highly advise against tanning of any sort, either outside or in a tanning bed. We do not recommend going into pools, hot tubs, baths, or bodies of water as this may cause infection. Showering is perfectly fine and cleaning the tattoo is advised. Avoid wearing tight clothing, rather wear loose breathable attire. Do not re-wrap or bandage the tattoo. Keep your tattoo away from pet dander and hair, and do not let your pet lick or scratch the tattoo. Clean immediately with antibacterial soap if this happens. Do not use washcloths, loofahs, sponges, scented soaps or lotions on your tattoo. To dry your tattoo, lightly pat with a clean towel or paper towel. Do not pick, scratch, or peel your tattoo as this can cause scabbing or pull out the ink. For more information check out our AFTERCARE section.
  • DO YOU DO TATTOO PARTIES?
No, our artists do not travel outside of the shop (other than tattoo conventions) to tattoo clients. This is because we require specialized equipment and the shop is the most sanitary location. If you are interested in bringing a large group of people to get tattooed, please contact the shop for further details.
